The SeAnne, lighting by Preciosa and Studio DADO

Preciosa’s exclusive Maritime Programme uses their lighting heritage along with cutting edge technology to create stunning lighting designs for luxury yachts and cruise ships. They have a special maritime engineering team that takes into account challenging sea conditions in order to create safe and durable chandeliers, wall lights and decorative lamps, floor and furniture inlays plus inspiring solutions for columns and balustrades.

In 2018 Preciosa created a magnificent dynamic installation for the Norwegian Bliss. This year, they again partnered with design firm Tillberg Design of Sweden on another Norwegian cruise ship – Encore. They created a total of eight lights in three different locations on the ship with the showstopper located in the main atrium. The dramatic feature is more than eight metres tall, formed from thousands of handcrafted crystal beads attached to metal nets creating a collection of luminous hanging ice blocks.

Precision and technique

Instead of pining the beads together in the typical way, they used a unique method of fastening the beads with a special wrap and heat, baking them into the structure. This technique puts the focus on the beads and not the support base, making the chandelier sparkle even brighter.

The result is an installation that appears light yet bold, changing silhouette depending on your view. The chandelier is RGB programmed. For this, each crystal net containing thousands of LED points which can be individually programmed to create innumerable colourful scenes.

In the Encore’s Theatre entrance hangs another of Preciosa’s fascinating installations, the SeAnne. The Theatre entrance holds four SeAnne lights altogether, each being nearly two metres long and with its underwater floral shape there’s no wonder why this is one of Preciosa’s most popular maritime lights.

Preciosa Lighting elevates the heritage of Bohemian crystal through contemporary lighting designs. The company is built on centuries of tradition and the unique art of master glass makers from Crystal Valley. They honour this heritage and craftsmanship by creating innovative lighting products that stand the test of time.
