Signage plays a vital role in guiding passengers efficiently around a cruise ship, significantly increasing their satisfaction. This improves passenger flow to reduce congestion and relieves pressures on crew members. At the same time, decorative signage helps pinpoint key locations, improving guest experience. Therefore, it is important to consider signage as an integral part of the vessel and thus attribute the resources to it.

Marahrens is an internationally operating German family business in its third generation. The maritime project business includes the design adaptations, planning and installation of decorative, technical and safety-related signage on cruise ships, ferries, yachts and offshore platforms.

Marahrens acquires new production machines

Our employees all over the world work hand in hand to serve our customers and realise their projects successfully. Following a successful year in 2022, we have recently equipped our Miami site with two new production machines, a Mutoh and a laser.

The Mutoh is a flatbed UV-LED printer that is ADA certified for US land use. This new addition will enable us to serve the US market even faster, as products with raised printing or ADA signs such as tactile overview plans can be produced directly on site. Its printing with multiple layers makes it possible to produce finely textured prints and Braille. Our new laser also complements our existing machines perfectly, as it can cut smaller, faster and finer. In this way, we can guarantee even better quality.

Providing high quality signage to the cruise industry

With our Miami office being only 20 minutes away from both the Port of Miami and Port Everglades, we are able to serve clients with last minute requests. Our experienced local installation team is ready to jump on board at any time and provide excellent and timely service.

Every project has its challenges and is unique on its own. The greatest challenges we face are usually time constraints or technically demanding designs. A particularly challenging project for us was one we completed during the pandemic over Christmas. Within a limited timeframe, Marahrens reproduced all signage in a different language and installed everything on board before the guests arrived for the new year cruises. This was only possible by a collaborative team effort by all parties involved.

An exciting year ahead

We are very pleased to be able to provide our customers with this all-round in-house service – from consultation and planning, to production, delivery and installation. Here’s to 2023 being just as, if not more, successful, as we have numerous projects in the pipeline! We are currently working on numerous projects – both newbuild and refits. In particular, Icon of the Seas is one of the very exciting projects that we are currently working on.

Marahrens will be exhibiting on booth 941 at Cruise Ship Interiors Design Expo Americas (CSI) 2023. CSI is the only cruise trade show dedicated to uniting the cruise ship interiors design community for two days of networking, making connections, and knowledge sharing at a leading cruise industry conference.
