Crafted using 45% recycled wool, Re-wool is a rich upholstery textile with a sustainable profile. The textile is partly made by reusing scraps from Kvadrat’s yarn spinners in the UK and has been designed by Margrethe Odgaard.
“The idea was to create a both honest and environmentally friendly – textile with a poetic feel by recycling leftover material from Kvadrat’s own production”, explains Margrethe Odgaard.
Reminiscent of colourful stitchings on a darker background, Re-wool features exceptional depth of colour, creating a dynamic play on the textile’s surface when applied to furniture.
From a distance the textile appears as a smooth mélange but, seen from closer-up, it reveals the vibrant, subtly nuanced details of the recycled yarn and a coarse, almost three-dimensional surface.
The colours for the Re-wool palette are all picked from Margrethe Odgaard’s ‘Shades of the Nordic Spectrum’ collection of hand-painted samples. Light in the Northern Hemisphere often comes indirectly from the celestial sphere. Reflecting this, the colourways for the textile are comprised of blended notes, inspired by the transitions from light to darkness unique to Scandinavia.
