Day 1 – Wednesday, June 19, 2019

Cruise Industry Outlook: Leaders’ Debate

Kicking off the two-day conference with a keynote session will be some of the industry’s most exciting talents. Moderated by Newton D’souza, chair and associate professor at the Department of Interior Architecture at Florida International University, ‘Cruise Industry Outlook: Leaders’ Debate’ will hone in on key issues, such as: the state of the industry, the impact of the increased rate of newbuilds and refurbishments, tackling limitations of IMO approved materials, how to recruit relevantly experienced staff, and more.

Speaking on the keynote session will be cruise interiors industry experts: Stephen T. Fryers, consultant at Royal Caribbean International; Colin Gant, vice president of vessel refurbishment at Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings; Petu Kummala, senior director of interior design & architecture at Carnival Cruise Line; George Scammell, director of interior design at Princess Cruises; and Trevor Young, vice president of newbuilding & refurbishment at MSC Cruises.

Sustainability in Design & Operations

After a well-deserved networking lunch, return to the conference hall for arguably one of the most important sessions of the event, ‘Sustainability in Design & Operations’. Spearheading the session will be Tillberg Design of Sweden’s owner & executive project director, Fredrik Johansson; BG Studio International’s president, Francesca Bucci; and Dansk Wilton’s marketing manager and Cradle to Cradle expert, Lone Ditmer.

The session will begin with a special Cradle to Cradle showcase from Dansk Wilton, after which the panel will discuss the importance of incorporating sustainability into design processes, as well as looking at recent case studies and in situ examples.


Day 2 – Thursday, June 20, 2019

Design Trends 2022

The second day of the Cruise Ship Interiors Conference kicks off with ‘Design Trends 2022’. Moderated by Carnival Cruise Line’s senior interior designer, Elizabeth Cazau, this panel session will open up conversation surrounding upcoming design trends, with our expert panel forecasting trends to come across the next three years. During the day two keynote session, seasoned designers will explore how design is evolving and maturing to become increasingly similar to landside design, delve into the impact of millennials as the new demographic, and contemplate the importance of using sustainable products.

Prophesizing trends as far into the future as 2022 will be industry experts: Javier Calle, founding partner at Studio DADOAndy Yuill, managing director at SMC Design; David McCarthy, director of marine projects & communication at AD Associates; and Helena Sawelin, partner, senior interior designer & project director at Tillberg Design of Sweden.

Extending the Life Span of a Cruise Ship

Learn how to extend the life span of older vessels and gather tips for creating multipurpose spaces onboard cruise ships in this session moderated by Seabourn’s director of interior design & operations, My Nguyen. With limited space onboard cruise ships, maximizing your real estate is vital. In this session, industry experts from cruise lines, design studios, and outfitting firms will share their expertise with attendees.

Speaking on the session will be Lisa McCabe, vice president of revitalization and hotel refurbishment at Carnival Cruise Line; Michael Colebourn, CEO of Trimline; Boris Ruskovsky, senior director of vessel refurbishment at Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings; and Vertti Kivi, CEO of DSIGN VERTTI KIVI & CO.

Women’s Leadership Forum

Featuring a panel of industry thought leaders and decision-makers, the ‘Women’s Leadership Forum’ is an event not to be missed. Designed to showcase female talent in a male-dominated sector, this session will benefit all attendees who are looking to improve their leadership skills and understand the challenges surrounding gender disparity in the industry. In this session, moderated by the president of Global Marine & Hotel Interiors, Anna Jenei, panellists will discuss the meaning of leadership, challenges facing women in the industry, how to develop young talent, the importance of team members and culture, how to instigate real change and more key concepts.

Spearheading the forum will be Dee Cooper, senior vice president of design at Virgin Voyages; My Nguyen, director of interior design & operations at Seabourn & Holland America Line; Petra Ryberg, head of design at P&O Australia; and Felicia Zwebner, CEO of the FZ Collection.
